2009 Kilowatts Design Company Inc.,Spectra PTC pipeline

Dewdney

  •

  • Cooperated with Kilowatts project manager to identitfy potential problems relating to existing measurement product density,  temperature, pressure and other potential volumetric measurement sensitivities relating to the NGL measurement of Spectra's PTC pipeline system.

  • Performed site visits to establish performance level of existing measurement systems based on P and ID drawings and feedback from key Spectra personel with respect to Cavern storage, NGL rail and truck loading and unloading and other related custody and noncustody transfer measurement systems and  processes.

  • Developed recommendations based on API MPMS standards as well as significant systematic errors due to hardware installation shortfalls and nonideal calibration and proving processes.

2008 Interpipeline Fund-Bow River System

  • Review operation of Bow River pipeline network relating to data transcription and measurement system operations.

2007 Gibsons Energy Partnership Ltd.

  • Developed and implemented standard operating procedures for bidirectional meter prover isolation, drain down, inspection, water draw, and flood up and commissioning.

  • Designed, built and managed construction and budget associated new Hydrocarbon Lab complete with state of the art, fume hood , ambient gas detection system, PLC, hi LEL/H2S AC power disconnect, new Karl Fisher Titration, centrifuge,, analytical balance, addition of cryogenic cooling to HP gas chromatograph enabling butane and lighter HC method testing on crude, lighting and electrical work, HVAC, permitting from regulatory bodies and proximity agreements for near by pipeline right of ways and utility corridors.

  • Assessed measurement reliability and uncertainty of existing diesel truck loading facility and recommended changes to meet regulatory obligations and increase system flow rates.

  • Designed and implemented four new diesel trucks loading 4” PD meter runs and engineered controls around air eliminator liquid spills as well as installed electrical improvements to allow remote system monitoring on SCADA.

  • Provided feasibility study on Edmonton North Terminal Crude Oil sulfur blending uncertainty.  Subsequently determined tank homogeneity, tank side wall representivity, interferences with existing system, cross contamination, representation of composite sampler system and uncertainty around ASTM D4294 x-ray fluorescence sulfur and lab analysis.  In addition, I was able to determine impact of cross contamination of low sulfur crude on  pipeline adsorption and effects of existing crude oil polyethylene sample bottle storage on sample sulfur levels.  Determined inadequacies of current sample regime, recommended improvements to existing fast loops, implemented changes to rectify problems with composite sampler software and implement new control program measures around standard reference verification of XRF sulfur analyzer in hydrocarbon lab.  In addition, pin pointed sources of intra-terminal cross contamination having to do with tank delivery lines as well as tank inlet valve transition period while receiving incoming batches. Finally provided range of uncertainty for XRF sulfur analysis for concurrent lab results on different representative crude oil samples.

  • Analyzed uncertainty of current truck unload and water cut process and prepared truck unload automation design proposal and business case reducing current truck unload measurement uncertainty by five hundred percent. The new system employs on line water cut and mass measurement along with a complete implementation of data collect and transfer automation. A new narrow foot print meter skid complete with air eliminator , on line water cut, ground interlock and Coriollis meter was designed.

  • Phase two of the truck unload automation will leverage the existing HMI from the truck unload automation by adding laboratory sample data for all lab analysis as well as incorporate meter proving data, sulfur and water cut terminal balance and automation of all of the manual ticket handling around the crude portion of the terminal

2006 Gibson Energy Partnership Ltd.

  • Developed complete hydrocarbon laboratory quality assurance program, complete with control and analytical instrument standard reference checks and control measure tracking.

  • Evaluated, proposed and implemented changes to turbine meter clearances and temperature reliefs on new 22 position diesel rail loading facility to meet Measurement Canada approvals.

  • Developed real time SCADA meter factor calculation of diesel product inlet metering versus rail loading meter to determine inlet meter factors.
